I didn’t think it was going to be like this. We’ve found a nicer than we expected house in a good neighborhood with the right school district for less than we wanted to pay. About 25K less.
We kept asking the Realtor if the house was haunted or something. She says there is no check mark for that on the home disclosure.
It’s got a hill of a back yard, but the bottom of the hill by the house if flat, and big enough for a swing set if we wanted one. BUT the big feature of the back yard is The Tree. One Single OAK. It’s monstrously perfect. When God said Oak – this is what he had in mind. It’s breathtaking. And so thick that it’s 15 degrees cooler under the branches. Beautiful. I have a feeling, that we* will be spending a lot of time in the sun room watching that tree. The entire perimeter of the house is lined with pea gravel beds. AND the driveway is surfaced with a pea gravel treatment, which continues up into the carport and on to the front porch. I’ve never loved a driveway this much in my whole life. the bedrooms, of which there are three, are OK. The master is a little on the small side, but I think we’ll fit. I think a little smaller may serve us well. We’ll be less inclined to keep stuff we don’t need. Well, not upstairs. The basement is Frickin Huge. Although it’s an unfinished basement, it’s not scary basement. Remarkably good. It also has a bunch of built in shelves and a boat door, so we* will be able to back a truck up to move in. I love that the laundry nook is in the kitchen, and that there is plenty of counter and cupboard.
No house is perfect, but the flaws are overcome-able (that’s is so a word!). Wallpaper: a kind word would be misguided. Another word would be excessive. The bathrooms are smallish and have a funny layout. But the plus is that the price of this house will allow is to pay it off in 15 years, maybe less, and then we can focus on sending the girls to college. Speaking of schools. The best elementary school in the state is 0.8 miles down the ever so flat and completely sidewalked road.
So, we are making an offer. Our Realtor will be making the papers tonight, and we will be looking them over, probably, Sunday night, and then the bid will go to the seller on Monday. THEN, the challenge comes in selling our house. We’ve reserved a storage place for the next three months. We will start boxing things up today and move them next Saturday. A sleek, uncluttered look will be the key to getting this house sold.
It’s turning out to be a wild weekend!
*assuming they accept our bid, and no one slides in before we can get there.
*assuming we get the house.
