It’s been a great, big, busy, scary week here already. First off, everything is fine for the most part.
On Monday, Mom had an ultrasound on her carotid Artery. The test show that it is 85-95% blocked. So on Tuesday, she had a stress test in preparation for surgery some time soon. This all came as quite a shock to me. As she was tested, I stressed. And I Goggled, now I feel better about this whole thing. Likely my mother will have a carotid endarterectomy sometime next week. She has an appointment with the surgeon next week. She says she didn’t like the stress test, as it was cold and they kept making her go and stop and sit and get poked and prodded. She has not said much about how she feels about any upcoming surgery. She is consistently tight lipped about such things.
As Jewell says, “worry is wasteful, and useless at times like these…” Yea. I’m that taut that I am quoting yodeling pop stars. But the point is, I will worry when the time is right, meaning – later.
In the mean time, Tony and I went to review my 401K and other investments with our long time financial adviser. I. Want. To. Barf. THAT sucked out loud. Wait and see… Ok, but I don’t have to like it, right?
The rain was coming down in sheets this morning, and I spent a good bit of time looking for my car key in the back yard. Sopping wet Stoopid Mom – that’s me. Elly was late to school, and the drive through the flooding puddles got my nickers in a twist.
Then, when I picked her up, she had a fever. Mass headache. Tummy hurts. Oh drat. She’s sleeping it off. I wonder how long it will be till we ALL have the plague.
In short, I’m blessed to be safe and warm in my own home, and I am thankful that things aren’t as bad as they are for some. MY home didn’t burn to the ground, as it did for my friend Amy’s students. We may have investments that blow, but we still have jobs, food on the table and everything we need. Mom and Eleanor may not be feeling their best, but I feel like things are under control, and they are being cared for. They will be fine in short order.
I’m going to take some vitamins and immune boosters and go to bed.
